Monday Night Snowfall Forecast

We have no idea who’s playing Monday Night Football because we’ve been digging through model data to bring you our latest snowfall forecast for Monday night into Tuesday. It is a tricky system and some spots will likely end up on the low end of this forecast. Hopefully this one ends up being a touchdown.

Forecast is subject to change.

The Details

CONCERNS: Dry air. Dry air in the mid levels (~5,000-10,000 feet) early on will erode away some of the initial snowfall. However, most model data agrees that this will be overcome in the first few hours. Overnight, we’ll see some banding set up that will produce heavier snowfall rates (1/2″ to perhaps 1″ per hour) across an area but exactly where that sets up is still to be determined. We hope to be able to determine where those bands may set up in later forecasts.

MIXED PRECIP: A mix of rain, sleet, freezing rain, snow and mud (ok no mud) may set up across far Southeastern Ohio at the start. Eventually, a transition to all snow will occur. This will lead to lower snowfall totals, likely around 1″ for most spots. A sooner transition could result in slightly higher totals. Some icy spot are possible in this area.

KEY TAKEAWAY: While we highlighted 2-4″ across a large swath of Ohio, THIS DOES NOT MEAN EVERYONE GETS 4″ OF SNOW. We’re confident enough that most spots will see 2-3″ of snow. Should dry air hang out longer than we’d like it to, we end up a little lower. Again, WE EXPECT MOST PEOPLE IN THE 2-4″ RANGE TO SEE 2-3″ WITH A FEW SPOTS POTENTIALLY SEEING 4″ OF SNOW. 4″ of snow is more likely should heavier banding set up for a time – which is something we’re still watching.
