Day 3 – Lake Effect Snow

Have you ever wondered how Lake Effect Snow forms? It takes a unique atmosphere in place for bands of snow to form. Lake Effect Snow can present serious travel problems and drop a significant amount of snow over a short duration. We typically have several lake effect snow events in Northeast Ohio every season.

In Southeast Ohio and West Virginia, moisture from Lakes Michigan and Erie can carry to the region and fall as snow there. This snow is typically referred to as “Lake Enhanced” snowfall, if referred to as anything at all.
